Multimedia artist Javiera Estrada was born in Acapulco, Mexico and emigrated to the United States in 1989. Her broad body of work—including fine art photography, mixed media, film, photograms, textiles, and wearable art—draws from her early memories of Acapulco: a tropical paradise alive with vibrant color, spiritual ritual, and the textures of magical realism.
Estrada’s practice is rooted in a mystical affinity for bridging the conscious and subconscious realms, the material and the spiritual. Rejecting Cartesian dualism, she embraces a worldview of interconnectedness and unity consciousness. This philosophy guides both her visual art and her wearable creations, where she seeks to dissolve boundaries between the sacred and the everyday, inviting art to be lived as much as it is seen.
Her explorations often examine the theme of interconnected consciousness. She has incorporated the female body as sculptural form in communion with nature, created primordial cosmic landscapes through inks and dyes, and transformed textiles into fluid works that merge fashion and fine art. The play of shadow and light recurs throughout her practice, symbolizing the dance between the physical and the spiritual.
Estrada describes her artistic process as both laborious and liberating. Each piece unfolds through a frenzied yet meditative layering—chaos and precision balanced—to induce presence and to resist the speed of the digital age. Whether hand-painting a leather jacket, ice-dyeing textiles, or constructing intricate photographic sets, she honors process as ritual, a space where the subconscious is free to emerge.
In addition to her visual work, Estrada is developing art-healing workshops that integrate her creative practice with her passion for transformation and inner growth. These workshops embody her belief that art is a portal to presence, self-discovery, and collective connection.
Estrada has exhibited in the United States, Europe (London, Germany, Switzerland), Asia (China, Singapore), and beyond. In 2020, her solo exhibition in Las Vegas was awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Commendation for the Arts from the United States Congress. Most recently, her work was shown at the Leica Gallery in Hollywood. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
